  • Freshmen all over Atlanta meeting over a meal, eating healthy sustainable local and organic foods, learn how to garden, work on community gardens, explore Atlanta,
  • Putting together a proposal for RHA, need help putting this presentation together and presenting it
  • Common theme with SOS is intercollegiate

  Bikes on Campus

  • Housing is still holding abandoned bikes, need ideas for how to use them!

  The Formal Consensus Process (used in GA Students for Sustainability, helpful to SOS) Purpose: to clarify process, present proposal or issue, questions to clarify meeting 1)     broad open discussion -          group discussion, call for consensus – thumbs – consensus! If anyone thumbs down (blocks) the process, then you identify concerns 2)     identify concerns -          list any concerns and reservations, propose amendments 3)     resolve concerns -          call for new consensus with amendments and discussion, restate unresolved concerns, questions to clarify concerns, discussion limited to one concern at a time 4)     alternate closing options -          create a subcommittee of the group who does have a consensus on the topic to go forth with the project   Project Group Topics (initials indicate who is interested in focusing on the projects) 1)     Energy -          no new coal (MG SH) -          green fees & revolving loan fund (JB MD) -          efficiency and renewable energy installation projects (CQ BV MM MG) 2)     Education and Outreach -          K-12 lessons in Fernbank Science Center (CQ AM CR TB GG JB) -          Inter-organizational collaboration (TB) -          Social and environmental justice and collective liberation outreach (TB LR KD CK) 3)     Food and Urban Eco-agriculture -          community gardens and guerilla gardening (BV MM KD KO SH) -          sustainable dining committee (NF) -          ATL in your mouth (sustainable sustenance agenda) (LR NF KO) 4)     Transportation -          bikes, GTSF proposal (CQ MD GG CK KO) -          GT bicycle forum  (GG CK MG) 5)     Other -          recycling education (AM MD) -          fall clothing swap (MM NF TB AM) -          fundraisers (CR TB) -          GTSF & NWF allocations and grants   Breakout Sessions for Tonight (If you are interested in helping out with one of these, contact anyone who said they were interested; see above ↑) -          energy -          k-12 education and outreach

      • Goals: formulate a reproducible lesson plan to send to other groups to teach in their local community

                                                              i.      target 6th, 11th, and 12th graders (tend to study environmental science)                                                             ii.      contact Dr. Witherspoon (Fernbank) to discuss how many schools we can hit up                                                           iii.      “What is Sustainability” sort of theme with hands-on activities                                                            iv.      no worry about funds, most material will be done electronically and hands on activities will be little to no cost   -          food and urban eco-agriculture

      • The aim of this committee is to build a capacity for fair and equitable urban ecoagriculture in Atlanta. Goals (tentative): -Expand and maintain gardens on campus       -Increase student involvement -Education and training      -Work to build an appreciation for nutritious, organic, and wholesome food -Create edible landscapes (Urban orchards, tomatoes rather than bushes)      -Coordinate with and train maintenance for this -Develop sustainable composting initiatives -Get food on the climate change agenda. -          GTSF proposal for bikes (Bike share)   Funding Options -          GTSF (due Friday) -          SGA (2-3 weeks ahead of time) -          NWF grants of $2000 -          Alumni in-kind donations -          Fundraising -          Corporate                                                               i.      risk that there will be marketing strategies that the company places on us that needs to be discussed in front of the group   SGA Elections for Rep from SOS -          need two members to work within the administration and subcommittees for a firsthand say in sustainability at Tech -          good for upcoming projects involving (ex) recycling, waste management, food, energy efficiency, motion sensor lighting that we should have a say in -          Nick Wellkamp, Clough, other upper admin want sustainability at Tech to be a main focus starting out this year, which is why this committee is new and seeking members now -          Looking for someone dedicated, professional, bright, articulate, willing to put forth time and determination to get things done on campus -          Time commitments: weekly meetings, project help   -          Voted Reps: Molly Mclaughlin, Nell Fry!
