SOS General Meeting 1/27/09   Upcoming Opportunities to Get Involved   -          Southface speaker to talk about energy audits in buildings on campus; will be on February 3rd, 6pm; will invite EAGT since they have some energy projects going -          Thursday 11am meeting with SOS EAGT Housing RHA Environmental Stewardship to talk about energy efficiency; EAGT plans to have energy saving competition in Freshman Experience Dorms and we will have energy audits in ULC and GLC -          Powershift ’09: if anyone else is interested in going, registration is now $45, housing at a church for $5/night -          America’s Greenest Campus competition; ranked 7th currently; the top group has 145 or so people, we have 15; will recruit more people in the student center; sign up at www.americasgreenestcampus.com -          Nalgene raffle: Thursday 11-3, if you want to bake vegan goods for it or help table, contact Carly -          Saturday: possible bike work day -          T-Shirts: if you have a shirt and want it printed, we will print it; or we will get a blank one from salvation army but it will take a little longer to get it: 2 options Sabio’s design or normal SOS logo -          Vegetarian society @ Soul Vegetarian this Thursday evening -          Rabun Gap: pushed back meeting, will talk to student body about sustainability, school is already taking initiatives, we could help them expand and learn more; contact Nell Fry if you are interested   New Opportunities Arose to SOS in the past few weeks that we can possibly take part in: -          Mountain Justice Roadshow: Feb 10th or 11th, speaker will come to talk about mountaintop coal removal and how it affects GA’s water supply; shows a documentary; open forum to follow; (consensus vote) will have him come 5pm on either that Wednesday or Thursday -          Interface field trip opportunity: (Douglas Hartley came to speak during meeting) in LaGrange, GA; world leader in sustainable manufacturing of carpets, power the factory off methane from a landfill; only asks for 6 weeks notice; will probably go after Spring Break on a Friday afternoon -          Campus Progress Southern Regional Conference, Feb. 6th-8th tour of CNN; journalism and activism training conference -          Project idea to make Biodiesel processor, small size, constructing one and doing CAD drawing to show scaled up size; with Pam Thomas, contact Carly in you’re interested in helping out   New Ideas in the works:   -          Environmental justice discussion panel, 3rd week in February, Engineering Students without Borders wants to work with us on the project -          Website: need to change front page to make it more visually appealing; update information, etc.; will have a meeting to further discuss that -          Concert update: Carly talked to Rock the Earth and they want to have connections between SOS and Musician’s Network so that it is more reliable, Molly knows a bluegrass band that does concerts for mountaintop removal that could perform in late March “Here’s to the Long Haul”, they’re performing at State and Kennesaw and Wonderroot so we could team up with State or them; Carly wants to form a concert committee to help out with the planning of this -          National Wildlife Federation Grants Applications due soon, contact Ben Vannah if you want to help out   Earth Day Commitments: -          clothing swap, alternative vehicles, fashion show, shoot the shoes, if you can help out with any of these events, please contact one of us   Community Service Opportunity -          if there is a project this semester you would like to take part in with SOS, contact Tara Bryant -          ideas: Tech Beautification Day April 4th, playground building Saturday after Earth Day (contact Cindy), Trees Atlanta   SGA Meeting Update: -          (Nell and Molly): sustainable move out program – moving to North Ave, working with RHA and Cindy Jackson (recycling) to expand and advertise more; bike campaign: we’re looking for a vendor
